A Healthier Approach to Your Spring “Detox”
Changing from Winter to Spring means the snow and ice is melting away to unveil grasses, trees and plants so that they can get some TLC from the sun and April showers for regrowth. The temperature starts to warm up, but not too much — so we can still wear a sweater and feel a cool, refreshing breeze on our skin.
With the shedding of our winter clothes we’re also more inspired and motivated to shed our winter excess, in whatever form this may be. With more daylight hours we’re energized to tackle our goals and organize our spaces. It’s a beautiful time!
Now I want to mention that the word “detox” is a heavily used word in diet culture that can be toxic (ironically) and lead us to fall prey to the marketing of unnecessary or even dangerous products that claim to “detoxify” the body, such as intense water or juice cleanses and teas. It’s important to note that the human body is cleverly designed with its own built-in methods of detoxifying, through our major organs, drinking water, and so on. So be wary, and perhaps try my gentler approach of setting Spring intentions outlined below.
